Moses Kotane / Mogwase Amusement Park
Mogwase is situated in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality in the North West. The council in the area has proposed a theme park in time for 2010. This will be a mega centre featuring an amusement park that depicts different African countries. Visitors will be able to watch the World Cup on giant screens complemented with a strong recreational experience.
Moses Kotane Local Municipality falls within the Bonjala-Platinum District Municipality. The municipality was mostly a rural municipality, comprising 109 villages, and two small towns of Mogwase and Madikwe. However the growth of the platinum industry and the opening of new mines has meant that the municipality is growing rapidly, a factor that is bolstered by its role as a string secondary node between Rustenburg and Northam.
The council is also hoping that the Amusement Park will draw visitors from the nearby hotel resort, Sun City. This is a major international destination for conferences, tourism, and also the gateway to the “non-Malaria” game reserves of Pilanesberg and the private lodges.
Business plans for the Amusement Park are available through Invest North West.
Tlokwe Cultural Village
The Tlokwe N12 Cultural Village Project involves the construction of a multi-cultural village along the N12 Treasure Route, on the peripheral of Ikageng Township (next to the entrance of Potchefstroom from Klerksdorp).
The Tlokwe N12 Cultural Village will include first-class facilities such as an administration block, conference centre, training centre, arts and crafts centre, ampitheatre, library and museum. In keeping with the green spirit of the entire project, the village will be designed in such a fashion that it qualifies as a sustainable or ‘green’ development.
The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality has had the project plan approved by council and is seeking additional funding and investment to go ahead with the first phases of development.

Greater Taung Development Programme
The famous Taung Heritage Site is the archaeological site where the fossilised skull of a young child was discovered by miners in 1924. The skull was taken to the noted Australian archaeologist, Dr Raymond Dart who named it “Australopithecus Africanus”, meaning the southern ape of Africa.
This discovery led many scientists to believe that the origin of early man was initiated on the African continent.

The finding of the Taung skull at the Buxton quarry in the North West Province, was noted to be one of the most significant archaeological accomplishments of all time. Due to this discovery, the Taung site was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.
Taung, meaning “the place of the lion” was named after Tau, the chief of the Bataung people. Today this town is home to the famous Taung skull. A monument to the discovery of the Taung skull has been set up and an old mine tunnel has been opened for exploration. The Buxton quarry, which is no longer being mined, remains an important scientific research site.
The azure Blue Pools are situated at the Buxton quarry and are surrounded by picturesque caves and stream. This is a popular hiking, abseiling and picnic venue with barbecue facilities set alongside this pristine spring winding through the ancient limestone valley.
Besides the archaeological sites, the Taung Heritage site and the village of Taung present numerous alternative spots that regularly attract tourists, including the Taung Dam and the Mmabana Arts and Culture Centre.
