African World Cup for African supporters
Wed, 14 Oct 2009 12:43

The FIFA 2010 World Cup is set to host a large number of African visitors. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) chief officer for transport and logistics Skhumbuzo Macozoma noted that the African showpiece would attract a significant number of African visitors and the necessary measures needed to be put in place to accommodate them. This would include an emphasis on road transport as many visitors would make the journey to South Africa by road.

Meanwhile, Macozoma commended the SADC transport indaba for devoting its final day to the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, and gave the audience the assurance that South Africa would indeed be hosting the event.

In terms of progress in other areas of the 2010 preparation, Macozama noted that 8 of the 10 stadiums would have construction finished by the end of October, while the last two would be finished before Christmas. On top of this the construction at OR Tambo International and Cape Town International was now also completed and lastly, the bus rapid transit system has also now become operational.
