The Director of Investec Asset Management, Jeremy Gardiner, called on South African’s to buy into the Fifa 2010 World Cup because the tournament would provide the perfect opportunity for the country to market itself to a massive global audience.
He emphasised the need for South Africans to all act as "ambassadors" for the country by being helpful and friendly towards visitors during the showpiece.
He also pointed out that the Soccer World Cup was the perfect opportunity to change negative perceptions about South Africa. He noted that many new visitors would be impressed by South Africa’s advanced system of infrastructure. Gardiner said that the “the issue of fear” would need to be addressed so that more visitors would be inclined to visit South Africa.
