The reciprocating KwaZulu-Natal, South African business delegation’s visit to Ghana
Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) along with the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Government and selected KZN businesses from the chemical, automotive, cosmetics and pharmaceutical sectors were in Accra, Ghana in November 2009 to promote KwaZulu-Natal’s 2010 state of readiness and business opportunities. The delegation will create awareness of KwaZulu-Natal’s competitive capabilities and secure deeper market penetration for South African exports in these markets. This forms part of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial strategy to build strong trade links with sister countries in the African continent and working together in order to strengthen the African economy.
The visiting delegation reviewed important insights on how Ghanaian and South African companies are already working together and finding success in each other’s markets.
Another matter was the possible identification of a consultative private / public sector entity which has interests in strategic relations with KwaZulu-Natal and will identify mutually beneficial business opportunities for Ghana and KwaZulu-Natal.
The delegation also sought to successfully initiate markets for individual companies in Ghana thus establishing trade-business linkages for KwaZulu-Natal exporters.
This delegation follows a recent visit by a 30 member business delegation from Ghana led by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) which toured the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng Provinces respectively from the 18 – 30 October 2009, and met with South African investors interested in doing business in Ghana. The team explored business opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs in South Africa. The visit was organised by GIPC in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry, WESGRO (Western Province), Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) and the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce.
“Trade between Ghana and South Africa has been increasing at a steady pace since 1994; indicate statistics by the South African Institute of International Affairs. South Africa has undoubtedly become an important investor in Ghana’s economy today, with its investments cutting across various sectors of Ghana’s economy. South Africa currently is the 14th major investor in Ghana world wide and the second in Africa”.
