Zambezi Waterfront Tourism Park (Namibia)

Also known as the NAM 10, the Zambezi Waterfront Tourism Park is an initiative proposed by the Namibian government to stimulate socio and economic development in remote regions, as well as stimulating investment and promoting Namibia as a tourism destination.

The Waterfront park is to be located at Katima-Mulilo, in the Caprivi region, which shares borders with Angola, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe and sees a continuous flow of tourists visiting each of these countries.

The Zambezi Waterfront is strategically located on 22 hectares along the southern bank of the Zambezi River and has access to the B8 (Trans-Caprivi highway), which connects Namibia to Zambia to the west and Botswana to the east. This road also leads to a major tourism attraction, the Victoria Falls.

The Namibian government is planning to invest approximately N$138-million in the project, to be spent on the construction of engineering infrastructure including earth works, roads, bridges and stormwater drains, in addition to admin areas, bungalows, shops and a conference centre.

Private sector investment in the Zambezi Waterfront is aimed at the following:

  • 4/5 star hotel with approximately 104 rooms (immediate investment opportunity);
  • A floating restaurant with a seating capacity for 100 persons
  • An entertainment centre (once additional land becomes available)
  • Shopping mall and plaza (once additional land becomes available)

The many activities on offer will encourage tourists to visit throughout the year. These include: fly-in safaris, game and bird viewing, boat cruising, quad biking, crocodile viewing at the crocodile farm, community tourism and crafts, cultural performances and historical sites.

Tsowa Island Zambezi River Lodge (Zimbabwe)

The Tsowa Island Lodge development on the Zambezi river is situated in the Zimbabwean boundary of the Kavango Zambezi TFCA.

The concession is to be awarded with the contract, with the lessee open partnership with foreign investor. It is envisioned that the lodge would have the capacity for 12 beds.

Activities that will be available at the Tsowa Island Zambezi River Lodge include:

  • Canoeing
  • Fishing
  • Bird watching
  • Game Viewing
