The Lubombo TFCA, which borders Swaziland, southern Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, consists of five separate transfrontier conservation areas linked by the Lubombo Mountains. They include Usuthu-Tembe Futi, Songimvelo-Malolotja, Nsubane-Pongola, Lubombo Conservancy and Goba.
The Somgimvelo-Malolotja region, which lies between South Africa and Swaziland, links the Songimvelo Game reserve in South Africa with the Malolotja Nature Reserve in Swaziland.
The Malolotja Nature Reserve is an impressive mountain park, with a vast range of fauna and flora. It is the largest proclaimed protected area in Swaziland.
There are three separate investment opportunities available within the boundaries of the Malolotja Nature Reserve in Swaziland:
Malolotja Family Lodge
Investment opportunity: The Malolotja Family Lodge is to be situated in Swaziland’s Malolotja Nature Reserve, and has been earmarked for activation by 2010.
The project envisions a catered lodge in the reserve with a 100-bed capacity for the medium market segment. Activities at the lodge will include unguided nature walks in the Malolotja Nature Reserve and a number of family recreational activities.
A concession for the establishment of the lodge in the reserve is to be made available to investors. The terms and conditions of this concession will be negotiated with the Swaziland National Trust Commission (SNTC), who is mandated to proclaim and manage protected areas in Swaziland.
