The Lubombo TFCA, which borders Swaziland, southern Mozambique and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, consists of five separate transfrontier conservation areas linked by the Lubombo Mountains. They include Usuthu-Tembe Futi, Songimvelo-Malolotja, Nsubane-Pongola, Lubombo Conservancy and Goba.
Investment opportunities - Usuthu-Tembe Futi
The Mozambique Ministry of Tourism has identified a number of investment opportunities that fall in the Maputo Special Reserve and Futi Corridor areas within the boundaries of Mozambique:
All these lodge developments are situated along the Mozambican coastline, which is renowned as a premier wilderness scuba diving destination. Activities within these developments will include hiking, fishing, canoeing, scuba diving, boating and horse-back riding. These investment opportunities in the Maputo Special Reserve and Futi Corridor area are located in a protected public domain. The Tourism Framework that has been developed for this area has been approved by the Mozambique Government. A concession model, including community partnership agreements where relevant, is still to be developed. It is anticipated that the concession lease periods will run for about 50 years and will be issued as renewable special licenses. Similar concessions have recently been developed in other protected areas and will be referenced in the consideration of the concession model.
(a) Ponta Mucombaou – Majumbo Lodge development
The project includes the provision of low-volume, high-value accommodation facilities. The envisaged upmarket lodge will consist of 15 en-suite bedrooms in separate structures, including a public area with dining facilities, lounge, bar, boma, pool and scuba diving centre.
(b) Ponta Membene Lodge development
The aim for this lodge is that it will encompass 15 en-suite bedrooms in separate structures, including a public area with dining facilities, lounge, bar, boma, pool and scuba diving centre. Included in this development are provisions for camping facilities. The accommodation will be a mix of self-catering and catered community and private facilities.

(c) Ponta Mamoli development
This development is initially (for three years) earmarked as a high-quality campsite offering medium-volume, medium-value camping facilities. This will allow for a re-evaluation of the markets to assess the potential for high-value investment. The campsites will have a maximum of ten sites accommodating six persons each. Facilities will be of a high standard.
