The Baviaanskloof (Valley of the Baboons) lies roughly 120km west of Port Elizabeth – only a 90 minute drive – in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Journeying through this mega-reserve – 200km2 of unspoiled, rugged, mountainous terrain – begin in the east at Komdomo Campsite and take the road through the rugged beauty of the Groot River port winding its way through pristine conservation areas and stunningly beautiful landscapes of a type to be found only in the Eastern Cape, towards WIllowmore in the west. This covers a distance of approximately 250km. For the adventurous, the vast mountain kingdom offers a unique wilderness experience offering various nature-based opportunities including mountain hiking, rock and mountain climbing, camping, bird watching and scenic drives.
Baviaanskloof mega-reserve, one of the largest wilderness conservation areas in the country with about 500 000 hectares of land and World Heritage Site status, has vast eco-tourism development opportunities.
