Investors are invited to participate in the Tlokwe N12 Cultural Village Project, which involves the construction of a multi-cultural village along the N12 Treasure Route, on the edge of the Ikageng Township (next to the entrance of Potchefstroom from Klerksdorp).

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality has had the project plan approved by the council and is seeking additional funding and investment to go ahead with the first phase of development.

The space earmarked for the cultural village was originally allocated for a resort, but when this initial plan was abandoned, it left the area available for development.

For more information on the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality:

The cultural village project was initiated in 2004 as a vehicle to organise cultural formations under an umbrella body to instill an interest in culture in the community, and to capacitate and empower individuals and cultural formations in arts and culture.

Vision: To be one of the Top 3 tourist attractions along the N12 Treasure Route.

A full business plan is available from the municipality. Contact Dr Monty Mongake on +27 18 473 2923 or email mongake@sdm.org.za.

It is envisaged that upon completion the village will present a viable opportunity to broaden the tourism potential of Ikageng and Potchefstroom in general. The project activities will be limited to the development of the feasibility study and project charter during the initial phase of the project's development.

More than 50% of the community earmarked for the project are female, and most of the households in the townships are headed by women, most of whom have opened up tuckshops and taverns to make ends meet. The rate of unemployment reaches as high as 60% in some areas and the level of illiteracy is 20% on average. The members of the community, through organised structures, have teamed up with other organisations in order to develop the business case and project plan.

A technical Project Steering Committee has been established to assist in the completion of the feasibility study and business case for the cultural village. In keeping with the green spirit of the entire project, the village will be designed in such a fashion that it qualifies as a sustainable or 'green' development.

The Tlokwe N12 Cultural Village will include first-class facilities such as an administration block, conference centre, training centre, arts and crafts centre, amphitheatre, guard room, library and museum, curio shops, restaurant, bar, lodges, chalets, boma, ablution facilities, lapa, and will be fully and securely fenced off.

A full project budget has been drawn up, including projected costs and revenue streams, and break-even analyses. The comprehensive business plan available from the municipality includes an extensive risk analysis and project implementation plan for interested parties to consider.
