platinum theme park

The idea of the Platinum City Theme Park is to create an entertainment, education and leisure facility that will draw visitors from all over the country and the world. The anchor attraction will be a simulated mine and a history of South African mining experience, which will combine education with entertainment.

The park, to be located in Rustenburg in North West Province, will include accommodation, conference and retail facilities.  A special focus of the theme park will be on the social aspects of the South African mining history, which will give greater emphasis on the story of mining through the eyes of the mineworkers themselves.

Facilities and amenities included in the Platinum City Theme Park complex are:

  • 60-room hotel
  • 200-seater conference facility
  • 6 000sqm retail and office space
  • 4 000sqm special events hall
  • mining museum
  • 950-car parking area

Estimated total investment costs are R750-million. The form of collaboration sought is a joint venture (equity), market access and buy-back arrangements. Types of investment or cooperation sought from foreign sources are financial investment; equipment or technology contribution or lease; manufacturing capability; management expertise; and marketing experise or distribution channels. A feasibility study and a business plan are available.

The project is endorsed by Invest North West.
