The Lesedi Local Municipality, in association with the Gauteng Department of Housing, identified the potential of development on portions of the farms Boschhoek 385 IR and Boschfontein 386 IR for subsidised housing purposes. The size of the parcel of land is approximately 415.7ha in extent and will ultimately house approximately 7 500 residential units with the required supportive uses.

The site for the proposed development is located within the so-called 'Zone of Integration', situated in close proximity to a number of exciting cultural and recreational destinations, such as the Suikersbosrand Nature Reserve, which is 2.25km to the northwest and Alice Glockner Nature Reserve to the southeast. The project forms part of the strategy known as 'Breaking New Ground in Housing Delivery'. This new shift in practice aims to provide diversity in human settlements which will lead to the achievement of the following:

• The promotion of mixed-income and mixed-tenure human settlements
• Ensuring that property can be accessed by all as an asset for wealth creation and empowerment.
• Combating crime, promoting social cohesion and improving the quality of life
• Utilising the provision of housing as a major job creation strategy.
