There is no doubt that the business climate today is much tougher than it was a year ago, with lending being squeezed by the biggest banks, investment from overseas drying up and a more pessimistic consumer putting the brakes on spending.

As businesses look to better compete in such an environment they must look for new ways to survive and compete.

One such new method that is about to be employed for the first time is a Business “Auction Floor” which is scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, at the end of June.

The concept behind the Auction Floor is to bring together like-minded individuals, companies and investors from the business world in order to flag up the best of today’s potential investment opportunities.

How does the Auction Floor work?

The event aims to build effective partnerships for investments and projects in developing countries, by bringing together the businesses and a wide range of potential investors who have interest in sustainable and equitable investment climate and business environment in Africa.

The Auction Floor booklet will gather together almost 100 businesses with investment-ready businesses, propositions, and proposals that are looking for funding or equity. Companies selected to present at the Partnering Forum will also have investment-ready business plans.

An Academy at the event will provide a platform for helping SMEs to practice critical presentation skills, and individual and group coaching will be provided throughout the day to help entrepreneurs maximise their presentation skills for the Forum.

The academy offers expert and investor/strategic advice coupled with peer-to-peer coaching, designed to enable businesses to fine-tune their focus and prepare a presentation that will generate interest in the company.

The Academy is highly encouraged for entrepreneurs looking to access international markets as they will be provided with concrete information, tools and resources to successfully partner and grow their business.

In addition, all short-listed companies will be presented to other investor forums in the future, with the view in mind that fundraising simply starts at the forum rather than ends there.
