Hitachi Power Africa has been awarded a boiler contract worth R18.5-billion by Eskom, while Alstom S&E garnered the turbine island works contract worth R13-billion for Project Bravo in Mpumalanga.
Both companies have before won similar contracts for Eskom’s Medupi power station in Lephalale, Limpopo. Medupi is due to come online in 2012.
For both Project Bravo and Medupi more than 50% of the contracts would be secured locally, with the potential to create thousands of jobs.
