The East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) has said that it is currently identifying which areas of the renewable energy industry it should focus its efforts on.

The IDZ has already issued a tender for consultants to undertake a renewable energy study in the Eastern Cape region, reports Engineering News.

Chris Ettmayr, senior researcher for business development at ELIDZ, said that renewable energy was one of the up-and-coming sectors the industrial park has identified as having good business prospects in the future.

While the study will focus on which renewable energy sectors are expected to be most viable for the IDZ, it will also take into account viability in the province as a whole.

The developer previously concentrated its efforts on establishing an automotive supplier park in the IDZ, which it announced last year had been successful. Following that it has begun to focus efforts on a number of new sectors including BPO, aquaculture, agriculture and ICT.
