Gauteng-Mpumalanga transport link to get going

The South African Cabinet has approved the construction of the Moloto Rail Corridor development programme, an integrated transport link between Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The project will cost R8.6-billion.

Government spokesman Themba Maseko said that the Department of Transport would establish a project implementation and management office. Together the department and the Mpumalanga provincial government will see to the progress of the initiative.

The project is to include rail, road and transfer facilities and is aimed at reducing travel time and road accidents on the corridor as well as providing affordable and safe travel options for commuters.
