The Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), in the Eastern Cape, is being targeted as an investment destination for Electrawinds Belgium, who plan to build a R1,2-billion wind farm there.
Electrawinds Belgium is that country’s biggest renewable energy producer and is in the process of finalising a feasibility study for the project. The wind farm should produce 57.5MW with its planned 25 wind turbines.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will conduct the environmental-assessment study for the project and it is hoped that it will be fully operational by 2011.
