South Africa might not be completely clear of the recession but the venture capital industry is taking on a more positive outlook. With more deals being sealed and more solid business plans being presented, venture capital investment is on the increase again.

The technology and innovation sectors have been particularly prevalent and it has helped that investments in these sectors have often been accompanied by tax incentives.

Although most investments are in early-stage and start-up opportunities, there has been a more calculated examination of the strength of proposed business plans. There is no doubt that new businesses and investment in them will help the economy recover and start creating the positive side-effects such as job opportunities.
