Renault South Africa is set to launch its first locally-produced vehicle in more than three decades in February, following the huge investment into the country by parent group Renault-Nissan.

The Sandero hatchback, which is priced below the R100,000 mark, is being built on a refurbished assembly line at Renault-Nissan's Rosslyn plant, in Tshwane.

"The Sandero is a key model in our range revitalisation strategy, but it is also a vital addition to the mostly staid and outdated entry-level sector - a sector in dire need of a thoroughly modern, safe, stylish and spacious contender,” said Renault SA MD Xavier Gobille.

As the Sandero is being produced locally, customers are expected to benefit from local parts sourcing, which should have a favourable impact on both pricing and availability.
