Port of Ngqura almost ready to go
Tue, 22 Sep 2009 14:59

The Port of Ngqura (Coega) has been given the go ahead for rail operations by Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) after the successful completion of a test run on the main railway line.

The official launch of the Port of Ngqura is set for October but this is a critical step in the build up to that point. The port will primarily be a container terminal and would be able to accommodate Ultra-Mega ships carrying between 6000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 10 000 TEUs.

The railway line will be linked to Gauteng and other inland terminals.
