The African Development Bank (AfDB) is to loan the state-owned utility company, Eskom, €1,86-billion (approximately R21-billion) to finance the new 4 800 MW Medupi power project.
The Medupi power plant is in the Limpopo Province and the project is set to be commissioned by early 2012.
The project will significantly increase South Africa’s energy capacity and this attempt to bridge the infrastructure gap is a vision shared by the AfDB.
