

SA stocks up 29% in 2009

The anticipated recovery in the world economy was the primary driving force behind the positive outlook and it was mining shares, which were particularly prevalent in improving stock prices.
When local financial markets closed at 12:00 on 31 December, the JSE Top-40 index of blue chips ended the year on 24 996.97 points while the all-share index ended on 27 666.45 points.
