An abalone aquaculture farm near Gansbaai in the Western Cape is likely to be expanded to the value of R40-million in order to reach a production target of 300 tons. The investment plan was announced by Premier fishing CEO Kevin Patel.
According to Patel, at 300-ton capacity, Premier’s abalone farm can realise R17-million annually in profits. Locally produced abalone is highly regarded and sought after on international markets, especially China.
