The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (SACCI) Business Confidence Index (BCI) rose to 87.6 in August, an increase of 3.3 basis points from July's 84.3.

SACCI said that the BCI for August was the highest reading for the BCI to date in 2010. The level recorded in August 2010 is also 4.6 points above the level for the same month in 2009.

The BCI had increased steadily to 84.2 in April but declined in May, before rebounding in June. SACCI said that since March, the BCI has exceeded the levels of the corresponding months in 2009.
