The provincial government in Limpopo has undertaken a project to install wireless broadband technology infrastructure in order to allow residents to access the Internet throughout the province.
It is expected that the project will be completed by March 2010. It involves connecting approximately 6 000 sites in Limpopo, including 4 400 schools and a number of clinics and hospitals in the more remote areas.
Thus far 13 companies had been shortlisted to implement the project in a closed bid tender. The results of the tender will be announced in late February.
The winning company will then be responsible for installing, designing, maintaining and strategically placing the provincially shared broadband network.
