Eskom last week advertised tenders for new 5MW to 100MW power plants for operation in the short term – by June 2012. In total 3 000MW of capacity are catered for in the programme.

Eskom indicated that the tender invitation is open to new build and incremental capacity, refurbishments of existing plants and technology solutions.

It add that that the tender to supply additional generation capacity was a response to the current shortage of generation capacity in South Africa, growing demand and the need to diversify the company’s energy make up.
