Limpopo Economic Development Enterprise (LimDev) is a development enterprise constituted in terms of the Northern Transvaal Development Corporation Act, Act 5 of 1994 (‘the Act’), promulgated on 13 January 1995.

LimDev is listed as a provincial government business enterprise in schedule 3D of the Public Finance Management Act, Act 1 of 1999 (as amended by Act No 29 of 1999). 

Great North Transport
Great North Transport (Pty) Ltd (GNT) is a wholly owned subsidiary of LimDev. GNT provides public transport services in Limpopo and part of Mpumalanga on the mandate from the government.

GNT has a total fleet of 480 buses spread throughout Limpopo and a portion of Mpumalanga, carries a total of 36-million passengers per year and makes a revenue of approximately R310-million in a year. The buses are spread according to 11 depots servicing communities in the deep rural and urban areas of the provinces.

GNT has a vision to be a preferred means of passenger transport and has a mission to:
• Provide a sustainable and affordable passenger transport service
• Operate a standerdised modern bus fleet
• Provide a safe and reliable transport service
• Promote opportunities for economic empowerment through partnerships with communities and SMMEs
• Provide a value-adding environment for staff and partners

GNT upholds the following values: honesty, respect, reliability and passenger/people first.

Operational model
GNT operates a total of 201 buses under negotiated contracts and 279 buses on an interim contract arrangement with the Provincial Department of Roads and Transport.

GNT employs a total of 1 099 personnel in Limpopo, including professional staff, administration and technical support staff.

In the financial year 2006/07, LimDev was able to achieve its developmental impact objective of carrying 32-million passengers per annum and achieving revenue of R310-million. The 480 buses collectively travel approximately 25-million km across Limpopo and a portion of Mpumalanga.
