East London IDZ gets R116-million autoparts plant
Tue, 29 Aug 2006 00:00

Foxtec-Ikhwezi, an automotive component maker, in September launched its R116-million vehicle components plant in the East London Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), one of a number of duty-free processing zones which aim to stimulate local manufacturers’ global competitiveness. Foxtec-Ikhwezi, a joint venture between Otto Fuchs of Germany and Ikhwezi Investment Holdings, a local BEE company, is the fourth investor in the IDZ. Others are Universal Safety, Seatek, an abalone exporter, and transport and logistics company Miltrans. East London IDZ said it expects that 80% of Foxtec-Ikhwezi’s production would be exported and the remainder supplied to DaimlerChrysler for its new C-Class Mercedes Benz. Foxtec-Ikhwezi expects that other local vehicle manufacturers would soon approach the company to manufacture parts.
