SA fruit exports to US almost double
Thu, 10 May 2007 00:00South Africa's exports of fresh fruit to the US have almost doubled since 2002 to $67 million (R477 million) last year and with Americans being encouraged to switch to a healthier diet this market is expected to grow.
The UK and continental Europe were still the main markets for South African fruit, and the current dollar weakness makes it more profitable to earn pounds and euros for exports.
Exports to mainland China and India had a lot of potential but high tariffs in India remained an obstacle.
