Demand for flights at Mafikeng Airport
Mon, 16 Jul 2007 00:00

Mafikeng Airport, part of the Mafikeng Indsutrial Development Zone (MIDZ), has introduced flights between Johannesburg and Mafikeng on Sundays due to increased demand. MEC for Department of Transport, Roads and Community Safety Phenye Vilakazi called on the community of Mafikeng and neighbouring areas to make use of the airport for more convenient travelling.

The frequency of flights would increase further if demand kept increasing. MIDZ aims to reduce unemployment, grow the provincial economy, develop people's skills and attract investment. Other MIDZ projects include the recently launched bio-diesel project, the Mafikeng paving project, the industrial park, an export hub and the Mafikeng growth and development initiative, of which the Crossing Shopping Centre is part.

The airport's operations have also created new job opportunities in the province’s hospitality, car hire and airport management industries.
