Broadband in SA to grow 33% over next five years
Tue, 13 Nov 2007 00:00South Africa’s fixed and wireless connections were expected to grow at a rate of 33% between this year and 2012, bringing the total number of connections to more than 3.3-million by the latter year, according to information, communication and technology research and analysis company BMI-TechKnowledge.
DSL accounts – which currently account for 49% of the market – were expected to decline to 45% of the total during the period as users switch to HSDPA wireless. Wireless services are expected to make up 55% of the total market, with HSDPA’s growth rate forecast at 35%.
While revenue generated per subscriber would fall, it would be sustained to some degree by customer’s taking up higher performance packages.
