With the Black Information Technology Forum’s (BITF) focus on propelling black people into South Africa’s mainstream information communication and technology (ICT) industry, it seemed only fitting that Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN) and the University of KwaZulu-Natal Graduate School of Business join forces to unlock opportunities within the ICT sector in KwaZulu-Natal. Topics for discussion at the forum include stimulating investments in the province, industry opportunities, government’s incentive schemes and pipeline projects, and the role of tertiary institutions in skills development for ICT.

'The Black Information Technology Forum is an association of black individuals formed specifically to address the poor representation of blacks in the information and communications technology industry, as both professionals and business operators,' said Luyanda Gwina, BITF KZN Executive.

Gwina went on to say that 'the BITF ensures that its members are kept up to speed with industry issues, but most importantly that they have a say in mapping out the direction of the industry.'

The BITF aims to:

  • Empower members with technical and business skills
  • Make BITF members significant role players within the ICT sector
  • Improve access to technology by the disadvantaged communities
  • Actively influence policy making
  • Promote the status of historically disadvantaged individuals and communities in the ICT sector.

'Trade and Investment KZN will continue to promote Black Empowerment and encourage the partnership and empowerment of local business', concluded Zamo Gwala, CEO of Trade and Investment KZN, after another successful TIKZN-hosted event..
